JSA2026 NYC 2025 Mayor’s Race Endorsement.
Why I’m Backing Curtis Sliwa for NYC Mayor — And Why Cuomo Is My Plan B
As someone running for Governor of New York, I don’t make endorsements lightly — and I certainly don’t enjoy finding myself in this position. But when it comes to the 2025 NYC mayoral race, the stakes are simply too high for me to stay silent.
Let me be clear: I am officially backing Curtis Sliwa for Mayor of New York City. He’s not perfect — none of us are — but he’s a fighter who understands public safety, accountability, and the need to clean up our streets. We need a mayor who can restore pride, order, and a sense of community in the five boroughs, and I believe Curtis is the only candidate left who can do that.
But I also want to speak to what I will not accept: I do not support the idea that someone who only recently became a U.S. citizen should be handed the keys to the largest city in America. Zohran Mamdani may be legally eligible, but politically and morally, it’s a bridge too far. A candidate for mayor of New York City should have deep-rooted citizenship and commitment to the people and history of this country — and not just recent paperwork.
If Curtis doesn’t pull it off in November, then Andrew Cuomo becomes my fallback option. We’ve had our differences. But in this three-man race, I believe we must do whatever we can to stop an extremist, inexperienced, newly naturalized politician from assuming power over a city that needs seasoned leadership now more than ever.
This isn’t about party. This is about country. And this is about New York City.
